Hear The Vision

[Project Overview]

Beyond Sight is a web app designed to empower the visually impaired with an intuitive and intelligent understanding of their surroundings. By leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies such as object detection and advanced computer vision, we aim to provide real-time audio feedback that paints a vivid picture of the environment.

[Problem Statement]

Visually impaired individuals lack an accessible, real-time tool that provides both immediate object detection and rich, contextual descriptions of their environment. Current solutions are fragmented: volunteer-dependent apps (e.g., Be My Eyes, Aira) are unreliable due to human availability and connectivity needs, while automated text-to-audio apps (e.g., Seeing AI, Envision AI) offer sterile, transactional information that fails to convey the dynamic buzz and emotional context of a scene. This gap leaves users without a consistently available, intuitive, and comprehensive way to understand and interact with their surroundings independently, limiting their safety, spontaneity, and engagement with the world.

[Process]

[01] Research

Literature review confirmed the market. Data shows over 450,000 Australians have low vision or blindness.

SWOT analysis exposed the competitor gap. No existing platform is both instantly available and richly descriptive.

Simulated walkthroughs validated the concept. Testing while vision-impaired proved the need for combined real-time object detection and scene narration.

[02] Insights

well preception of stairs and other common obstacles.

Mobile users struggled with small buttons and unresponsive layouts.

Trust the platform with her payment and personal information.

[03 Design Solution]

Simplified the checkout process into three steps: Cart Summary, Payment.

Added features like autofill suggestions and real-time error.

Added features like autofill suggestions and real-time error.

[04] Testing & Iteration

Conducted A/B testing with 500 users, comparing the original and redesigned flows.

Gathered feedback through usability testing and refined the design based on user input.

Designed a mobile-first layout with larger touch-friendly buttons and simplified navigation.

[Outcome]

25% increase in checkout completion rates.
30% reduction in cart abandonment on mobile devices.
40% improvement in perceived ease of use, as measured by post-launch surveys.

[Key Learnings]

Simplification is key

Users value a quick and easy process, especially on mobile.

Iterative testing pays off

Regular testing uncovered hidden issues and ensured the design met user needs.

Details matter

Small improvements, like error validation and mobile optimization, had a significant impact.
